Hi all,
Approaching bottling time on my first batch and wondering if it's better to mix the bottling sugars with the wort (is it still wort at this point?) in a separate carboy/jug/pot and then to bottle it from there or should I divide up bottling sugars into each bottle and then fill from the fermenting carboy?

Thanks for your help

It's BEER!!! Whoo hoo I always rack from the fermentation carboy to a bottling bucket with the sugars ever so gently! And then bottle from there.

The easiest way is to mix the sugar with the beer (wort becomes beer the moment you pitch your yeast) in a bottling bucket or another carboy. Make sure you use a carbonation calculator so you don't over carbonate. You'll need to know how many volumes of CO2 you want, the temperature of the beer, and how much you beer you have.

Because you are handling the beer so much, you can get an infection pretty easy. Try to keep everything covered so nothing falls in and be pretty liberal with the sanitizer. I keep some in a spray bottle to coat anything that needs it. I also gently stir my beer every 6 bottles or so to keep the sugar in suspension. It will settle to the bottom and you will not get even carbonation in your bottles. As soon as you get a bottle full put a cap on it. You don't have to cap it, just place a cap on top so nothing falls in.

Good Luck

Typically when I bottle I boil some water and dissolve the sugar in the water and add the sugar water to a sanatized bucket with a spout and then slowly siphon my beer onto the sugar water. Then I bottle it. Best of luck!
