bottling with corks?

Has anybody bottled with corks instead of caps? And why won't it work if so? I have millions of them but no caps...
By the way I'm talking about the twelve ounce bottles, not the Belgium ones. I imagine it won't but still thought I'd ask.
 
Yes. I've done this before and it's a common homebrew practice. It's more popular with Belgium styles. Just make sure you use both wire cages and bottles that have something in the neck for the cages to hold on to. If you want effervescent carbonation--like most lambic and Belgians require--you need thicker, Belgian or champagne-style bottles.
