Hi i am new to home brewing and am on my third batch. My question is about bottling. I want to know if i can use bottles that are 20oz and brown but they are cider bottles. Would it matter if i used these bottles to bottle my beer.
The method i use is rise out the bottle after use then on bottling day i put them through the dishwasher then soak them in iodophor with water for 5-10 min then let them dry before bottling. With this method would i be able to use the cider bottles. They are used to hold magners irish cider if that helps at all.
 
yup. You can use pretty much any bottle that your capper will cap. I use fancy bottled water bottles (green) for cider. and 22 oz cider bottles for beer all the time.
 
I've never come across Irish cider, but if it's carbonated, and you can cap the bottles, I don't see why not. I used English cider bottles for many years without any problems.

Yup again. And skip the iodophor step if your dishwasher has a hot cycle.

Honestly, you should NEVER skip a sanitization step, even though you think you could....You can never be TOO sanitized. That's the one thing that you should do MORE of, rather than thinking about skimping on a step.

Many people think that the dishwasher doesn't necessarily goet every piece of biomatter out of a bottle....SO rather than just skate by, it's best to err ont he side of caution.

Maybe he's saying that saving a few cents by not sanitizing in addition to running them through the dishwasher cycle may not be saving at all, if the beer is ruined. Personally, I sanitize all my bottles with Star San using a "Vinator" pump. As I do each one, I place it upside down in the dishwasher. I can then run the dishwasher just before I'm ready to bottle (usually the next morning). The dishwasher doesn't reach up inside the bottles, and I'm not completely confident that the heat of the dishwasher sanitizes the interior of the bottles completely. What I do takes very little time, and has the intended result.
 
You might want to test the bottles and make sure you can cap them. I had bottles from many sources and found out while I was bottling that a few bottles I couldn't cap with my capper. So you might want to waste a few caps and make sure your capper will work.

You're right, more sanitation is better. However, I have bottled a lot of beer (I don't keg) and I have never had a bad bottle. Ever. And I have never ever put any star san, bleach, or iodophor in my bottles. I reuse the same bottles over and over.

My dishwasher does have that "hi temp scrub" feature, so maybe that is keeping me out of trouble.
