Bottled my first batch. A simple amber ale.

That looks really good. Congrats on your first!

Big bottles save a lot of time bottling, that's why most of us prefer 5 gallon bottles. :D
There are a few downsides to larger bottles.

a. They don't fit in the fridge very well
b. The sediment on the bottom mixes back in when you stop pouring and tilt the bottle back
c. If you give them away you lose your big bottles
d. We brewers usually don't have a problem finishing larger bottles but some of our guests and SWMBOs do. You get a bit more mileage with the flip tops.
 
Congrats on your first! That's an awesome feeling. I love looking in my closet where I condition my beer and seeing them waiting.
