I am new to All Grain Brewing and understand that pop off type bottles with a capper are probably best. My question is if I have twist off type bottles and get used caps will I have any issues with my beer?

You cannot put crown caps on twist-off bottles, they won't seal correctly. I wouldn't try to re-twist used caps onto twist-off bottles, I don't think you'll get a good/reliable seal that way either. New crown-cap bottles aren't that expensive, or just have friends and family save them for you.

I've capped twist-off bottles with crown caps. Sometimes they seal, and sometimes they don't. I'd say it isn't a good idea.

I've never had one stay sealed, so you've had better luck with them than me!

Yeah - skip the twist offs, go with pry-offs or Grolsh style bottles if you want.

Also the twist off bottle top is made of thinner glass than the pop top. I've never capped twist offs but I have heard stories about them cracking (hell, I've cracked a couple pop tops, now that you mention it!!!)

Caps from used beer bottles. I know it doesn't sound pretty, but thought it might be a cheap option.

With the amount of time and money you're putting into processing ingredients into good beer, the several dollars you're going to save by using crappy/used packaging would be a poor decision and a gamble...penny-wise and pound-foolish. Sucks to get a beer all the way through fermentation and then have the packaging screw it up.

I've been using "universal" bottles caps which are intended for both twist off or pry off bottles, and have not had any leaks on the small percentage of twist off bottles that I have been re-using.

There are definitely brands of crown caps that specifically say that they are not to be used with twist off bottles.
