Hey

Newer extract homebrewer with a question on how to share beer with others. I bottle in 22oz with caps or 1L with flip tops. I'd love to take some beer to some colleagues but would need to either check for a flight or ship. Does anyone have any recommendations on best practices for transporting homebrew?

Thanks

Has anyone used these? They look so easy to use.
Whale Pods

It looks like my previous solution Crafty Shipping, has limited or zero availability. Does anyone know? I’ve probably shipped 100+ bottles with them, and never a single problem.
Yes I have 2 of the Whale Pod 6 pack shippers I used to send some homebrew to my brother. They worked really well. The foam insulation packs every bottle. Nothing moves or even rattles. Theres an optional plastic bag that goes on the inside around everything and would contain any break, leak, etc for a couple extra dollars.

I will say its going to cost way more to ship a 6 pack or a 12 pack than you probably expect. I shipped a 6 pack from PA to NJ via Fedex a few months ago. $33. I only did that once. He shipped me the empty pod and parts back. It looks like it went through WW II. So I don’t think they will be very durable for repeated shipping.

Couple the cost of the pods plus the cost of shipping. You would have to love someone very very much or be very very proud of your homebrew to pay $50 to send somebody a 6 pack

Thanks for the info! Yes, I know how much shipping runs … and I still ship to competitions, as well as some family. Some combination of love and pride.

I recently shipped 12 cans to someone on the east coast. I had previously ordered some beer online from a CA brewery and had them shipped to my house. They packed 12 cans using a can version of the Crafty packaging that allowed the cans to stand upright in the box. It did cost around $50 to ship via UPS, yes a bit painful. But I was returning the favor, that person had shipped me a dozen Tree House cans.
