Wow. Did not know these things!!! lol. Will try my next brews from a room temp glass.

I like my wheat beer that I buy (going to brew some of my own soon) served quite cold and a frosty glass is a plus. I like to take my stout out of the chiller and leave it on the counter for an hour to warm up before I pour so I get a stronger aroma from it.

Yup, it all comes down to preference. There's nothing wrong with drinking from a frosted glass if it accomplishes what you want. :D

I too have discovered the wonders of un-chilled beer. Its pretty amazing what a difference there is in certain beers once they start to get a little warmer. Did some Stone Verticals last night, and there was definitely a different taste to the same beer as it came up to room temp.

This is one of the great things about taking your time with a beer. If you kill it in 15 minutes, you get one basic experience. If you drink it over a longer period of time, you get to experience how it changes as it warms up. And its particularly interesting for complex beers like the Stone Verticals tend to be.

Ive found it different with different beers, My english amber was great at a cool temperature, but really frosty in a frosted glass the flavors changed for the better. My Irish red on the other hand prefers a non frosted glass at a warmer temp (55*ish) and the flavor and aroma profile really comes alive, Try different things with different beers n see what you like!!

I tasted one of my Browns the other day after a week and a half in the bottle, respecable head and very good carbonation. Very tasty, opend another last night and it had an off oder and a weard taste.(My wife thought so as well) I put it aside and opend another and it was fine, great tasting and nice head and aroma. Whats up with the stinky one? any thoughts??

newby second batch.

Not all bottles carbonate and mature at the same rate. The one that tasted weird needed another week and a half (unless the bottle wasn't clean enough and you got an infection going).

I collect glass from breweries, if they have cool stuff. Like... if you ever go to Stone, you absolutely have to get tasters and stout glasses. When I eventually get to Founders, I have to get a globe.

I stole a glass from a pub that ripped my band off (gave us $100 to split 4 ways, when we brought about 70 people out on a Monday night) but that's justified. Otherwise, ask the pub. I find that most will let you keep a glass for a reasonable price (around the same as what you pay if you buy from the brewery) and that's pretty fair.

FWIW, there are some that are more sought after than others. The one I ganked is the "most stolen glass" (Delirium) but there are glasses designed for certain things... the etched bottoms on New Belgium and Sam Adams, etc... things designed to help with the aromatics of certain beers. And getting the beer delivery right is worth the effort IMO, because you want beer to taste as good as it can, as long as you don't have to be an idiot and get 12 of every glass known to man. :) Might as well collect Hummels.

If it was stinky and tasted funky, i vote you got something funky in the bottle. I woudl think that less likely with boiling than with sanitizer, but you never know what might have dropped down into that particular bottle while bottling or whatever.

I had a batch where every one i drank was fine, but one i gave to a friend apparently "smelled like cheese". He had others that were fine, but that one caught the funk. Something got into that one that wasn't in any other bottle from that batch. It happens.

Just got home from work and I am sampling another brown, its vantasticly tasty, must have been something funky in that bottle for sure. Thanks for the reply.
