Bottle vs. Can

So just picked up two four packs of canned Brewery Vivant beer and i'm still not sold on cans.How do you guys and gals feel about this? I know a lot of people will say you cannot taste the difference but my palate screams metallic taste.A lot of that goes away within the first few sips but I can still taste it on the back of my tongue.

I love cans. I keg, so for me, dealing with bottles is just a PIA. I like the convenience of pour, crush and toss (recycle bin) that goes with the can and not having to worry about breaking anything.

The only time I've ever noticed a metallic taste is when my Father-in-law offered me a beer, and when I said it tasted funny he said, "Maybe 5 years is too long to keep beer."

Dales pale changed my mind on can beers.

most (if not all) cans are lined so the only metal the beer makes contact with is the top once opened so you're probably tasting the top of the can

Cans are alright I guess, but ya' can't re-use them.

the only things I don't like about cans is: 1) they don't make a good weapon in a bar brawl. 2) really can't reuse them for my home brew.

I agree with this.^^^^

As far as craft beer goes, Dale's PA changed my mind about the quality of beer in a can. I am also a fan of Deep Ellum IPA out of Dallas. Hopefully this year I can get my hands on some HT.

canned beer is way more portable than bottled beer. i prefer cans, but i prefer to pour them into a glass as well

Cans! A few local beers are available in cans and I love them. It makes them easier to travel with. It may be in my mind but it seems like the hoppy beers taste fresher longer.

Plus a big past time in Texas and surrounding states is floating the rivers. No bottles allowed.

Golden Road turned me around on cans. I always pour into a glass regardless of the container it comes in and I've never tasted anything metallic from a can.

So true I wish craft beer would have been around in cans when I was in San Marcos going to SWT. (now TSU) We floated the Guad almost every weekend as soon as it was warm enough, but mainly relied on BMC as the only available canned beer at the time. Still an awesome experience, I recommend to anyone.

I don't notice a difference. I most pour into a glass either way. I do remember the tour guide at stone saying that the beer stays "fresher" in a can as opposed to bottle.

The metallic taste is all in your mind. The entire inner surface is coated with a varnish and then that varnish is baked on. No beer ever touches metal.

Not for nothing, but aren't kegs essentially big cans, if you think about it? Never heard the same complaints when talking about draft beer.

I like cans, and the fact that more breweries are going that route seems like a good move to me.

It was somewhat hard to wrap my head around cans. All good beers growing up were in bottles. But local breweries her in Cincy are canning and I'm enjoying those.

do trades with people for beers you KNOW are in bottles, then send them cans.

If the beer I want to try is in cans and bottles I will select the cans if the bottles are twist off. I can get money for recycling cans and the bottles are not refillable, just dead weight going to the recycling center.
