Did a first batch, didnt have a hydro for a first reading until after primary and read 1.016.is there any threat for bottle blow up ?.it was a 1 gallon basic ale and used 3/4 tsp priming sugar per bottle. my primary was 8 days.and a full moon which someone told me would take 5, did 8. tasted strong and kinda fruity used crystal grains steeped and light dme (20 min boil)with willamette hops.to me it tasted like a 7-9% abv.so it would have a higher og? im thinkin.

wondering if a 1.016 final gravity can cause a blow up if i primed with 3/4 tsp. dextrose during botteling.yeah the full moon-someone told me you get a faster ferment.during one.

the full moon thing is a load of crap. Was it done fermenting? Did you check the gravity over a span of several days to see if it was done fermenting? this is the only way to know.

should have but ive notice a few degrees drop in temp too so the gravity reading thing may not be so accurate . .seems like a pain to sanitize ,expose to air by opening every time and checking when the temp is dropping.range is 59 to 75.its been at 68-63 pretty constant 64 latley.I know its close to done but not how done. its was inthe finish range on the hydro.didnt know if there was a set final gravity reading that would be a for shure blow up potential

To check to see if fermentation is done, use your hydrometer and check the Specific Gravity. If it is the same for 3 days in a row, you are good to go... As you brew more beers, you will find that you will want it to age a little longer than a few days.

As to the bottle bombs? I would put them in the bathroom in a rubbermaid tub (with a cover) just in case.

thanks , next time ill check twice. just thought there was a set reading where it is safe from bottle bombs.but apparently not .ill probably give it 10 days then check after 3 more then bottle next time.

depending on the batch, the final gravity can vary greatly (some above 1.030, some below .990) so there is no "set reading". the only way to tell for sure if it's done fermenting is to check the gravity over several days to make sure it isn't changing.

also, might recommend batch priming with a measured weight of priming sugar, vs. adding a measured volume of sugar to each bottle.

you will get more consistent priming, and subsequently, a smaller chance of bottle bombs.

Now that your primary question has be answered, I have to know about this full moon thing. Were you told that a full moon increases the amount of time fermentation takes? Did you read it in a book? I'm just wondering.

Actually there was a news story a few weeks back about it that created one of those flurries of threads on here.

Brewing on the full moon

no i didnt read it i was told by someone on youtube homebrewers that i would ferment faster during a full moon he told me 5-7 days . but check it out first timer brewer and i didnt have a hydro until botteling read 1.016 dindnt have a wort reading so it made me nervous as the label on the hydro says never to bottle unless its 1.006 or less.(yah right} dont believe that really but still not experienced/.bottleed 3/4 or less of priming sugar .so im nervous about if it was done. i know check it every 2-3 days to see if it drops didnt know that befor i bottled . but look it was 1# dme 1/3# crystal 20 and about 1/3 willamette hops got 8 bottles
