I know this thread has been getting a bunch of this lately, but here goes...

I'm flying into Boston Sunday for the Patriots/Steelers game. We won't have much time for anything before catching the train to Gillette from Back Bay (Salty Pig for a quick lunch and a few beers?). We'll be there during the day Monday before flying out at 5PM. I'd love to hear some suggestions for where to spend Monday drinking and eating. Also interested in recommendations for bottle shops, too (flying home on Southwest ). Or should I just hit Trillium/Row 34 and be done with it?

There's fort point market and a craft beer cellar in that neighborhood for anything else you'd want beyond Trillium. It would be pretty easy to drink/eat/buy bottles all in Fort Point. I like day drinking at Cambridge Brewing Co.

Thanks for the response! I wish I was staying longer in Boston so that I had more time to check out the city and surrounding areas. Psyched to at least grab some Trillium, hit up Fort Point Market, and grub at Row 34 though.

Bee's Knees might have some things that Fort Point and CBC don't. It's not far so worth a look, at least.

Checked out Lamplighter for the first time yesterday. Astral Weeks was really a phenom beer from Lamplighter and the atmosphere was comfortable.

Went to Lamplighter and Winter Hill on Friday night. Both packed. Line out the door at Lamplighter at like 9pm.

Both pretty okay.

Astral Weeks was decent, liked the oak, but a little too much butyric acid on the nose. Still probably my favorite from Lamplighter other than the DIPA which I had before and didn't try again. People I was with liked the chamomile beer Group Theory.

Winter Hill was smaller than I thought it would be, but the location is convenient for me. I mostly got IPAs, which I enjoyed but wouldn't write home about. Not sure why they don't do flights. The Half pours seemed pretty expensive and I don't think they listed oz of beer anywhere (they must be literally half pours, since the DIPA half pour was a smaller glass than the others). This is a major pet peeve / no-no. List your oz! You're a brewery!

While it's not terribly close to Cambridge, Redstone in Stoneham had them for sale. I believe it's ~$20 for a 12 bottle shipper though.

I'll be in the Boston area (read: Natick) for work March 8-10, down to touch tips Wednesday or Thursday night before my wife arrives Friday. Any suggestions for the area? Main interest in hitting up Jack's Abbey, which I'm staying about 10 minutes from.

Also, being from Houston, what are the chances I'll need a 4WD or snow tires for an early March trip?

Check out Exhibit A Brewing. They are in Jack's Abby's old location (about 5 minutes away from Jack's Abby's current spot). Great hoppy stuff, porter and kolsch.

Also, Springdale is Jack's Abby's side project and is next door to Jack's Abby. Ales instead of lagers. Seems to be IPAs, saisons and sours (some of which were ported over from Jack's Abby's sour line).

Edit: Craft Beer Cellar Framingham might be your closest decent bottle shop.

That's one hell of a setting change. Lucky for you, you will be only 10-15 minutes away from Armsby and 15-20 minutes from Medusa.

True, but it beats the hell out of whatever Boston has to offer when it comes to Brewery Taprooms not named CBC or Night Shift. They do a lot of good Euro style beers and their stuff are getting better. Just went to the 2nd Anniversary and their Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout was fantastic. Laser Cat is one of the most underrated NE style IPA out there.

He also has Jack's Abby/Springdale about 25-30 away. Pretty good time living in Central Mass with all of the cool taprooms opening around here.

I took a greyhound from Manchester to Boston once. That was 8 years ago, not sure if it still exists.

Thanks for checking that out my friend! Unfortunately the earliest bus doesn't arrive until 5pm and my reason for going is to go to Trillium. If I rent a car, do you think a regular car with no AWD would be fine in the current conditions? I'm not used to snow or really any sort of weather at all

If you're not used to driving in snow and not sure whether it's needed, you're probably better to err on the side of caution and get AWD
