Missed this, but for any future readers: I like to bring in food to Night Shift, although they often have food trucks. Rincon (Mexican) in Somerville is one of my goto's.

+1 on this. No disrespect to the amazing food trucks at NS, but I've brought many a home-made or takeout dinner or cheese plate to Night Shift. Idle Hands' taproom welcomes BYO food too.

I finally tried to Ciao! pizza at Mystic's taproom. This could be the best pizza in Boston. Order at Mystic's bar with a credit card and it shows up in 15 min - gratuity included.

Usually it is, they also sell all the BWs in both full pours and half pours. You can get 3 half pours at a time.

Checked out Dorchester and Lamplighter for the first time yesterday. Astral Weeks was really a phenom beer from Lamplighter and the atmosphere was comfortable. Wasn't overly impressed by anything at Dorchester but it was the last stop and they were closing so I kind of rushed through their selection. (And I was drunk)

Got dinner beforehand at Jacks Abby to try all the new Springdale beers, too. Most of them were solid, none blew me away but all very drinkable. Always exciting to see more hoppy tallboys coming out of there. My favorite of the day there was the Noon Hill blend, I think it's the house lager blended with a dunkle. Need to crush from an oversized Oktoberfest mug.

My brother in law lives in Boston and asked me if I knew then best beer fest that happens in Boston. Is it truly the Alstroms extreme beer fest or something else? I want to try to aim him in the right direction.

I'm not a fan of them either but I have to admit EBF is pretty well run (at least last time I went in 2015). I went 4 times and always had a good experience and lots of great beer. I heard that Copenhagen Beer Celebration last year was even better but I'm not sure if it's a one-time thing or not.

Nerax is not as good as EBF in my opinion.

CBC was a lot of fun and arguably better than EBF, especially if you like sours.

It's been a few years since I've been to Harvard Square, but I remember Russell House Tavern was a great spot to eat, drinks were great as well. Not sure if it's what you have in mind and I'm sure you can get better recommendations from people still in the area.

Russel House, Beat Brasserie, Sinclair, Alden and Harlow, Waypoint are all right there in Harvard Square. A&H is my favorite, Waypoint is from the same owner but I haven't been.

IMHO Alden & Harlow is the best restaurant in Harvard Sq. Their tap list can sometimes be underwhelming, but they have a good wine program and the food is top-notch. Plenty of places nearby to have a drink, my favorite of which is Park Restaurant. Or, you're not far from Lord Hobo or even Cambridge Brewing Company.

Alden & Harlow is my favorite harvard sq restaurant too. Waypoint is great as well; same chef and bar manager but focused more on local seafood and vegetables. Cocktail list features absinthe. That guy is a magician behind the bar.

+1 on Alden & Harlow, Russel House and Park Restaurant. Waypoint also has excellent food. The tap list is small but mostly local and well curated. Last time I was there they had taps from Oxbow, Mystic, Mayflower. All of these options are pretty upscale.

The Lamplighter Brewery taproom is not far from Harvard Sq (a little over a mile). And if you are looking for something more laid back with a pub atmosphere, Cambridge Common is not far and has a large taplist with local options.

I know this thread has been getting a bunch of this lately, but here goes...

I'm flying into Boston Sunday for the Patriots/Steelers game. We won't have much time for anything before catching the train to Gillette from Back Bay (Salty Pig for a quick lunch and a few beers?). We'll be there during the day Monday before flying out at 5PM. I'd love to hear some suggestions for where to spend Monday drinking and eating. Also interested in recommendations for bottle shops, too (flying home on Southwest ). Or should I just hit Trillium/Row 34 and be done with it?
