Has anyone tried using bombers or growlettes for bottling kombucha? I have read that they are not made to withstand the pressure brought on by typical bottle conditioning of ales so I'm supposing not. Just curious.

I believe bombers are fine. I've used them a lot without problems. Don't use growlers or growlettes (although undoubtedly someone will disagree with me based on their own experience).

You can use them fine if you aren't carbonating. Once fermentation is complete, just don't prime it before filling. Or add other fermentables like fruit.

For what its worth, I've used bombers many times to bottle condition ciders, and I've never had a problem. I think that you'd be fine with KT since it doesn't get nearly the same pressure as ciders do (at least in my experience).

I prefer wide mouthed canning jars with the plastic lids (bought separately) for KT. They're easier to get out its of scoby or ginger when you clean them.

Also, a sink drain strainer fits perfectly over the mouth or a juice cup to strain the chunks out of the KT.

Depending on the growler you should be fine. I use growlers from Brooklyn Kombucha that have a nice seal built into the cap to hold in carbonation.
