Hi, this topic must have come up but I can't find it. About to build a 3-tier stand and am concerned about the safety aspect of boiling 12gal of water 6 feet up. I hate it when a boiling pot tips and warms the back of my neck. How do I secure the vessel? It will be either a 50liter (12gal?) pot or keg.

What are you asking about exactly? What will make it less tipsy? Weld some angle iron as holders, like a cup. If using a keggle you could also add inside braces up in the skirt of the keg. Then it will be braced inside and outside several times.

Thanks mikescooling, that is exactly the question. I couldn't see any bracing in pictures, but now it seems obvious. I am trying to get a reject 50 liter keg from SA Breweries and as you know they are tall and narrow. I will make up some kind of bracing. Cheers.

Thank you for that. I haven't brewed all grain so am unfamiliar with the process. I have read that most brews require water at 150~170 but one Hefe recipe calls for addition of 6qts boiling water to raise temp to 100F or so (We work in C so this is just a guess). Definitely need more research and studying of John Palmers book when it arrives. The on-line version is a bit tedious to navigate.

buy a pump and lower the HLT and subsequent vessels to counter height. 100% agree with a 3 tier stand not being safe

Right, I'm convinced. Using Newton seemed so neat, but having everything on one level just feels right. So, off to the pump shop........
Great advice Art.
