I have an IPA in the secondary and just brewed "Hank's Hefeweizen" from Midwest. I got the blueberry extract and plan on putting it into the secondary with the Hank's next week. should I only do the 2 oz of extract in the secondary that it calls for? Also, if I want to add blueberry's while drinking, is there a recipe around to cook them or make them more of a sugary/syrupy flavored taste?

Just wondering the best way to go about this.

Thanks!

Tim

I've never used blueberry extract, but I used hazelnut extract once. The recipe said to use 1 oz, but that it was ok to use all 2 oz if you want a very strong taste. I used about 1.5 and thought it was very strong - next time I'd probably go down towards 1 a bit (it was a crowd pleaser though...)

I have no idea if the blueberry extract is similar in strength, but I guess the point is i'd follow the recipe the first time, and then adjust to your tastes the second time :)

The local bar here just adds fresh blueberries to the Rorbach's BB Ale. I like it.

I added 2 oz. of extract during bottling on my Blueberry Blonde (based on some instructions found somewhere in the forums). Sample tasted great, but haven't had a chance to taste the final product yet.

Can't speak to the part of your question about adding blueberries.

Look around for some blueberry pancake syrup and drizzle some around the rim of the glass before pouring the beer. Works great.

OP, what yeast did you use? If you used a Hefe yeast, and if you fermented fairly warm, the esters will overpower the blueberry.

I use a neutral ale yeast for my fruit wheats, like US-05.
