Blow off tube for Big mouth bubbler

I just brewed my first beer that required a blow off valve using the big mouth bubbler. I simply used a 3/8" OD 1/4" ID tubing in a #7 bung ran into a jug of star-san. It worked but it was pretty close to plugging a couple of times. I was wondering what other people use for their blow off tubing on the big mouth bubbler. could I use a real large hose similar in size the the bung and just plug it into the lid.

I use a 3/8 plastic elbow barb fitting. One end goes in the bung and then 3/8 siphon tubing snugly fits over the other side. You can get these at any hardware store. Never has plugged once, and it's a bit more low profile than a traditional airlock if fermenter height is an issue. 1/4" ID is pushing it, IMO.

could I use a real large hose similar in size the the bung and just plug it into the lid.

yep. that's what I do. it doesn't seem to seal up all that great (I have the old style lid) so I usually replace the tubing with an airlock as soon as the krausen starts to fall.
