If you are a Mr. Beer user and are looking to move to all-grain brewing, or a brew master who is brushing the dust off his old memories, I'll try to start providing a few recipes that turn out satisfactory for me that fit perfectly in a Mr. Beer brown keg fermentor. This will typically fill about 20-22 12oz bottles.
My first recipe post will be a Blonde Ale. I brewed this via the Brew in a Bag technique, and it turned out very good! It is a nice straw colored ale, very reminiscent of a typical American Lager, though not quite as "clean" as a lager would turn out to be. Has a little ale fruitiness, with a slight wheat taste. Hops are not too apparent in the taste. Since I really didn't do a bittering hop because I don't like hop flavor in this kind of beer, if you'd like it to be more hoppy I'd recommend the 0.63oz cascade for 30 minutes or longer. Very easy to down a few of these when they're cold. Here are the specs and ingredients:
Recipe Type: All Grain
Yeast: Safale US-05
Yeast Starter: Yes
Batch Size (Gallons): 2.32
Original Gravity: 1.045
Final Gravity: 1.009
ABV: 4.7%
IBU: 21.2
Mash Temp and length: 153 for 90 minutes
Boiling Time (Minutes): 80
Color (SRM): 5.4
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 25 at 64
(I have some odd numbers in the weight of some things just based on my kitchen scale showing OZ's in fractions. For example 12.4 oz = 12 2/5oz)
1lb 12.4oz: German 2 Row Pilsner
1lb 12.4oz: 2 Row Pale Malt
7.0oz: Flaked Rice
7.0oz: Crystal 60L
4.0oz: White Wheat Malt
0.63oz: Cascade pellets (7.3%) @15 minutes
0.37oz: Cascade pellets (7.3%) @2 minutes
OPTIONAL: Dry hop cascade (7.7%) last 5 days of fermentation
I have attached the BeerSmith document I used also for those who have it. Any questions for help or anything related to the recipe, just ask! Enjoy!
