Big Mouth Bubbler Volume Graduations

I just got a BMB. Not used it yet. Got to figure out how it fits into my routine, and what fermenter to retire.

I see there are graduation marks (bumps) on the side which I think are supposed to align with volumes. How accurate are they? Do I need to check the volumes myself, or are these good to go by.
