Big fermentation and quick fix : is it correct?

Hi all!

This is my 1st post on this forum but I read many posts and really appreciate the community.

I'm a new 1gallon brewer, and did 2 days ago my 2nd batch. I did my own recipe with Beersmith, wanted to do a belgian trippel and used Wyeast 3787.

My yeast was manufactered 02/02/2016. I checked MrMalty and it said 0.8 of the packet. Since it's pretty cold on my flat (64F/18C) and that the gravity of the beer should be pretty high (1.085 OG, I don't have any hydrometer, sorry), I've decided to pitch the whole packet.

1st day, all went fine except bubbles going out of the airlock and sulfur smell.
2nd day (this morning), I woke up and see the pictures in attachments.

I did a quick workaround with a blowoff tube that I sanitized but still got liquid coming out. Should I do something more? And even if I already know the answer that will be given ("you're fine", "beer will be beer", etc...), is there anything better that I can do to ensure this will be drinkable?

I know this isn't what you were looking to hear, but you're fine! You're fine in the sense that you did exactly as you should. A blowoff tube is super smart and yes, beer and what not might blow off as well, but in the end you did exactly as you should (except maybe using a blowoff to begin with instead of the airlock :D)

So yes, it will be beer but it will be good beer because you did it right. Welcome to the forums!
 
Be sure to keep your temperature down- blowoff often means a lot of heat is being generated. You want the beer to be under 70F- fermentation can heat it up much warmer than the room's temperature.
 
You can use two drops of Fermicap next time to reduce (or eliminate) the amount of blowoff.
