I just brewed my second belgian strong ale yesterday from Beer Captured. It called for 8.25 pounds of extra light LME and 12 oz of Belgian Candi sugar. Rather than wasting the left over extract and sugars we tossed them in to raise the abv a little more. My dad wanted to add some toasted oats in for fun so we did that too. I know its not really to style and could add haze but who cares? I havent used oats before so it will be interesting to see what it does.

I am still pretty new to Belgians and its also my first time using the WLP550 yeast strain (I used Wyeast 1388 before) so if you have any tips they would be appreciated.

Estimated Abv 9.9%
Estimated SRM 7
OG 1.0852
Estimated IBUs 29
9.9 lbs of Muntons extra light LME
1 lbs orange blossom honey 15 min boil
4 oz Brazillian Killer bee honey 5 min boil
1 lbs Blonde Belgian Candi sugar (1L)
4 oz Gambrinus honey malt
5 oz Biscut malt
4 oz Flaked Oats (toasted 30 mins at 300)

1.5 oz Stryian Goldings 60 min boil
1/2 oz Stryian Goldings 15 min boil
1/4 oz UK Kent Goldings 5 min boil

1 tsp Irish Moss 15 min boil

2 vials of WLP550 in 1000 ml starter and 2 tsp of yeast nutrients

I have a small carboy heater band on it and so far its been fairly stable around 72.
