The keg tops were plasma torched off. Now there is a gritty black metal residue in them. I cleaned one of them out with water and rags, but there is still some residue plus it took forever. I am thinking maybe goo gone or letting it soak. There has to be a super efficient way since you guys seem to come up with ingenious solutions to problems 24/7.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks again for all the help. :mug:

goo gone is a bad idea - it won't help and will be hard to rinse out. Wire brush? PBW?

I got some barkeeper's friend and a brillo type pad which isn't as coarse. I think it will work.

I had to use the 3M pad on the first one I did, then I started putting a couple gallons of water in the keg before plasma cutting the top out. This cools the slag instantly and you just dump it out. There might be a little spatter on the sides, but much less than if dry.

ding ding. if i cut another, i will fill with 7 gals water to prevent the slag from sticking....... gotta clean it good or it will rust out. NEVER use steel wool or anything mild steel as the iron will oxidize the passivated layer.

I meant to add some water to mine before cutting, but I might also add some crisco around the sides to help keep the spatter from sticking there as well.

If you plasma cut the tops off of your keggles, and did not put water in them before you did so, you can use a vacuum cleaner to get the metal shards out. It worked perfectly for me. If you are concerned about messing up your vacuum cleaner, then I suggest taking your keggles to an industrial do it yourself car wash and use their industrial vacuums.
