Hello friends. What is everyone's take on malts that lend a red color to beer? Does anyone have any secrets they're willing to divulge about making amber ales? I'm looking for a nice vibrant red color.

Thoughts?

Let's see if I can get the pic to work on this...

This is the best I have to offer at this point, but I used carared and roasted barley to achieve this.

I tinkered with the recipe in hopville until I just crossed the threshold of copper/red/lt. brown

Here's whats in it for a 5 gal batch:

34% 1.200kg Light Dry Malt Extract
28% 1.000kg Munich Malt
28% 1.000kg Vienna Malt
8% 0.300kg Carared
2% 0.080kg Roasted Barley

Edit: SORRY FOR THE HUGE PIC! Wow!

When I make a red ale, I add a little bit of roast barley to the mash at mash out. In other words, don't mash the roasted barley, add it when I'm ready to drain it and sparge.
