looking for a cheap chest freezer that can fit 2 carboys for fermentation control. ideally id like something tall enough to fit cornys as an alternative without having to build a collar. any suggestions?

I was looking for the same thing. I ended up with the GE 7.0cuft Model: FCM7SUWW

It'll hold two fermenters (bucket or carboy) on the bottom and leaves room for a blow off container on the shelf. You can also fit 4 cornies on the bottom. Price should be right at $200 for a new unit.

nice! if i was going to hook up cornys to serve would you need a collar though?

Are you talking about a corny on the hump? If so, yes you would need a collar.

no, not on the hump. ive heard about some chest freezer models just being a few inches too short from being able to have connects for serving on cornys.

The 7.0 cu. ft. GE model mentioned is tall enough to accommodate ball lock cornies with cobra picnic taps on them (without a collar). It's also tall enough to hold a 20lb aluminum CO2 tank.

thanks, probably my best bet unless i can find something real cheap on craigslist..

No clue about compatibility with cornies as I bottle, but if you give me a minimum clearance you'd need I'll get the tape measure out and find out.
