Hey what are a few of the best breweries to visit around LA? Can't drive more than an hour or so from the LA/North west LA AREA

THANKS!!!! :mug:

1 hour driving in LA? That might mean 15 miles or less. Off hours it might be 50 miles.

If you can get to the OC, I highly recommend The Bruery.

Golden Road. Excellent food and great beer. Eagle Rock is pretty good too, tap room only. Those are probably the closest, but it really depends on exactly where you'll be.

Oh, that's not L.A. at all, that's basically Ventura. Surf Brewery is right up the road in Ventura, Enegren is in Moorpark. Take a drive up the coast on the 101 past Ventura and you can hit Island Brewing in Carpinteria, nice beers just off the beach. Not a whole lot of options to the south without driving quite a ways. If you keep going north past Carpinteria another 10 miles or so you'll hit Santa Barbara. The Brewhouse is nice there.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Ladyface Alehouse in Agoura! Only 10 minutes from Thousand Oaks.

Do this and you will be glad you did. They are years ahead of most other breweries IMO. Really underrated and relatively unknown.

Thats because in my opinion, all their beers taste the same.
Institution is really good! definitely check them out if you live in the area.

I had their barleywine the last time I was in there and really liked it. I haven't been impressed with their Belgians at all. Their food is really good though.

haha you nailed it EXACTLY. Their barleywine is good, rest of their beer is crap IMO. Food is decent, but overpriced and the service sucks.

I don't know if it's too late, but Anacapa Brewery is also in Ventura, with some good ale and even a lager sometimes. The ladies there are very nice ;)

I was about to post something similar. I'll be in Valencia. Anything good near there?

In Valencia your options are Wolf Creek and Oggi's, both of which brew at their other locations, not on site. Food and beer are pretty good at both. Drive up the 14 half an hour or so to Lancaster and hit Bravery (taproom, excellent beers) or Kinetic (brewpub, good food, decent beer, kind of pricey).

Go out the 210 to Pasadena to hit the Stone Company Store, they usually have some limited stuff on tap. Also in Pasadena is Congregation Ale House, which I've heard is good, but haven't actually been to.

Head down the 5 to hit Golden Road like I mentioned in a previous post, amazing food and great beer. Eagle Rock is also not too far down the 5.

Head out the 126 toward the Ventura area for Enegren, Surf, Institution, and the rest previously mentioned.

There's quite a bit of beer not too far from Valencia, but you're going to have to drive. Hit Whole Foods for a pretty good selection of bottles.

The bruery is one of the most know in the craft industry I think... People hoard their beers like crazy. IMO they are good but over rated if anything. Most of the beers are stomach churningly acidic. That said I do enjoy them.

Institution is good, wolf creek is in calabasas as well. If you can make it to Santa Barbara telegraph ale is really good, as well as island on the way there. If you want to try most of these breweries in one place just go to barrel house 101 in Ventura and they have lots on tap.
