Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale

I had this for the first time on Friday night. Real nice beer, I *love* the hops - but there's a very strong roasted undercurrent that I'm not sure I'm in love with. Definately a noticable element to the beer. Seems like they use a decent amount of roasted barley or something similar in there, it's more than just a toasted note, it's definately burnt/roasty. If it wasn't for that, this would definately be in my top-five; it's still up there, though.

A word of caution: Just because you may be able to find some of these beers, doesn't mean they're in good shape when you get them. I'd try to find them as close to the source as possible to get it fresh and not handled poorly.

Excellent advice. Nothing better than drinking a stoic craftbrew near it's origin site.

Mine:

Wieckse Wit
Goose Island 312
Newcastle Brown
Celis Grand Cru
DFH 90 (I know it's been mentioned, I'd just like to mention it again)
DFH Sawtooth

The funny thing is, several of my own blow any of these commercial brews right out of the water.

Here's a few of my favorites:
Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock
Bell's Two Hearted Ale
Three Floyd's Alpha King
Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Summit Maibock
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
New Belgium 1554
Guinness
St. Bernardus Tripel
Duvel
Orkney Skullsplitter

someone may wanna delete repeted beers from this post, im jus to drunk to do that right now.. so this is the list so far, any addition?

(i plan on trying all these beers and putting them in order of best to worst with ur help)

hobgoblin

.......

New Holland - Dragon's Milk

Hrm well, personally I would try to group the selection by what they are like put the Optimator and Dead Guy on a night or something...etc.. along with one other type that is a contrast. This should help keep you do a comparison (by grouping them) and adding another type will help keep it interesting. Maybe try max of 4 in a tasting, or if you have someone to share with go for some more. My advice too would be to work from lower strength and up (in a night) and work from less to more hoppy. Higher strength and hoppier beers tend to muddle your palate for other tastings...

Add anything from Brewery Ommegang to your list while you are at it:

Ommegang Abbey Ale
Hennepin
Rare Vos
Witte
Three Philosophers

Goose Island 312

.

:off:

Hey Cheese, we were @ Geno's East and had a pitcher of this...it seemed thin though? I was just wondering if that was normal? It almost seemed 'watered down'? which was odd. Is it supposed to be really light and thin? btw..thx for extending the offer to grab a few brews with you, but it was 4 of us travelling together and you know how stuff like that goes.

Trappiste Rochefurt 10
Sierra Nevada Celebration
Siera Nevada Pale Ale
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barlywine
Rogue Hazel nut brown nectar
Dogfish Head 90 min. IPA

AB bought them, what can I say? I will say this though: GENOS?!? Ewww! That place gets closed down every couple months for roaches, rats, etc.

:off: Mediocre pizza, for sure. They thrive on tourists. But I hadn't heard anything about health concerns. Now, there is a Gino's at Rush and Walton that gets shuttered a lot. No relation to Gino's East, which was bought by Rich Melman (Lettuce Entertain You) a long time ago.

Back on topic, I have to add St. Arnold's Christmas Ale to my list.
