I'm brewing a Bell's Oberon clone this Sunday. My recipe says the OG should be 1.070 and I'm doing a 5 gallon batch. I've got a 6 pack of Bell's Amber Ale I'm collecting yeast from. What's the proper way of getting the most yeast needed for this recipe? I don't want to wait too late if I need to do multiple steps in the starter. I've got a stir plate and a 2 liter flask.

  • Should I save the yeast from all 6 bottles?
  • Do I need to do the starter in steps?
  • should I use the stir plate from start to finish or let it sit first (I read a post where someone did that with sucess)
  • Use yeast nutrients?
  • Need to areate the wort?

Thanks for the help!

i have tried it from Bell's MW Pale, but i'm 90% sure my yeast was DOA. date on the bottle was 6 months previous and it didn't taste very fresh
