Howdy,

I have an ESL student that's doing a quick 2 week trip to Belgium. She said she likes beer so I said that her homework would be to try three beers and review them (in English, of course). She doesn't have a lot of time, and since her trip isn't beer centric (gasp), I'd like to make her a list of readily available, but world class beers/breweries. Suggestions?

For readily available: Westmalle, Orvall, Leffe, Duvel, Chimay, Delirium, Kwak, Hoegarden grand crux, Rochfort, Stella, Palm. Not all world class, but available about everywhere. Easy to find, and stateside as well.

If you want to make her work, send her to the biertemple in Brussels, its a short walk from the mannequin pis. Have her grab three based on the label and bring back three for you (if she is 21). She can grab Cantillon at the temple (approx 9-11 euro) or at the brewery (around 4-6 per bottle) about 2 miles away. Much cheaper at the brewery, and a nice tour.

When I was at the bier temple in downtown Brussels, walk in the door, hard right, and 2nd or 3rd shelf against the wall, Westvlettern, 15 or 20 Euro per bottle.

Last, here is the menuhttp://deliriumcafe.be/bieres.html at the delirium cafe.
