This batch was my first ever homebrew. I used the Brooklyn brew shop's Everyday IPA. This was a great experience and the beer turned out much better than I expected, it tasted similar to the Fat Tire Ranger IPA.

My question is about its foaminess. Almost as soon as I open it, foam builds. Even when I pour the brew carefully it builds a lot of foam. The bottles have sat in the fridge for a couple weeks. Did I do something wrong?

Could just be that it was over-carbonated. How much sugar did you prime it with?

Per the directions I used honey. If its over carbonated would waiting awhile after opening, before pouring help?

It didn't seem like it was extra bubbly or that when I popped the cap there was any extra pressure.

I just bottled this kit last weekend. I didn't use honey, as I read a review of this kit online that stated that next time they made it, they wouldn't use the honey because it took away from some of the flavor. Therefore, I used priming sugar from the LHBS and used one of the online calculators that told me to use .5 oz, due to it being a 1 gallon batch.

It's only been bottled for one week, or I'd let you know how it turned out.

Definitely overcarbonated. I would either do the nose oil trick or pour as much as you can get in the glass, throw it in the fridge for a few minutes to settle, then pour the rest.

How long did you carb, how long did you chill before opening, and do the bubbles stay on the top or do they disappate quickly?

Two weeks in the closet and a week in the fridge. It had good head retention. I poured a little and waited twenty seconds to subside and poured more after. When there was only two fingers of head I drank and it retained some level of foam to the last sip.

Ok, sounds like it was just a little overcarbed then. Use less honey next time!

I wonder if you made sure you were down to a stable FG before bulk priming & bottling? Always go by hydrometer readings to be sure it's done. Not by instruction time tables. That could also be the cause.

unionrdr, I was thinking the same thing.

I rushed a christmas ale and had the same results.

Not enough for bottle bombs but overcarbonated.
