Beersmith ipad app question

Hey folks,

I just downloaded the beersmith app and I have a question with the "dry Irish stout" recipe. The batch size is 5 gallons. So I look at the mash in and it shows add 10 quarts of water and then mash out adding 5.6 quart. Again the batch size is 5 gallons but the amount of water that you add is only 3.9 gallons.

I am very new to this app and also new to all grain brewing.

Am I reading this wrong?

What you are missing is the recipe profile uses fly sparging, with 3.11 gallons of water. If you are doing BIAB you could just mash with 6.84 gallons of water

Ok I just don't know how to use the app just yet and I do not see that part.

It's OK it takes time. Check in the mash profile
