I am trying to get my wife into drinking beer with me, but she can't stand the bitterness of the hops. It doesn't matter if it's a 13 IBU bock, she can't stand the taste. Is there some commercial beer or a recipe available that I could make that has zero bitterness that I could try for her? Maybe beer just isn't her thing.

maybe it's just not her thing...

what about a nice brown ale? more sweet than hoppy. my wife doesn't mind those and she haaaates hoppy beers of all levels.

I've actually been drinking a lot of sours lately...and she actually likes those! maybe try that route?

A Gose beer has basically little to no hop flavor but it is sour.

A Russian Kvass beer is made with pumpernickel bread and to my knowledge has no hops.

Hops counterbalance sweetness, so a hopless beer is going to be "Meh".

With fall apples coming in soon, how about a hard, sparkling cider.

I always thought that beer without hops was called malt liquor but I'm probably wrong.

While my wife's taste isn't as extreme as your's, she prefers fruit beers that have more sweetness to balance out the bitter but you might be stuck with wines, meads and ciders.

What does she like? My daughter has never been able to stand beer no matter what. I got her to try a Berliner Weisse and she absolutely loved it. Now I can't keep any in the house because when she comes over she hits my stash. She loves those and goses. It's just a matter of trying different things until she finds something she likes.

My wife can't stand hops, which is partly why I brew tons of sours. For her it's the noticeable hops flavor or bitterness. She enjoys balanced stouts now as well as scotch ales, brown ales, smoked beers, and oaked or brett saisons. Let her sample some of those.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll give some of those a try. I did offer her a dunkelweizen, and it was a no go. She's into really sweet and fruity drinks, so maybe the cider is the way to go.

My wife hates hoppy beers too. But she will drink up stouts and porters. I have to keep my coffee vanilla porter on tap pretty much all the time for her.
