Beer with Malt and Hop extract ??!

Hi Brewers

Has anyone ever tried making a beer with just liquid malt extracts (mixing to give different flavour/colour) (no grain or DME) and isomerised hop extract?

Would I be right in saying no boil would be needed and the everything could just go straight into the fermenter? Given isomerised hops don't need to be boiled!

Any thoughts/experiences/suggestions?

Sure. All extract beers are nothing new.Be sure that the majority of liquid extract that you use consists of base malt. That means, use pilsner or light malt extracts. I would suggest that you do perform a minimum boil though to sanitize the wort, even if the hops extract doesn't need it.

I haven't used hops extracts but there are some commercial breweries that use them. What I do know about them is that they are quite concentrated and a little goes a long way for bittering. I'm not sure how they are used for aroma/flavor additions or how well they perform for this function.

The LME is already sanitized when canned, so no boiling in a pot is necessary. What I would do is cook up the 4L of boiling water with a water kettle and dump it over the LME in the fermenter. After the LME has been mixed with the boiling water, add cool water and the hopextract(or as per instructions of hopextract).
