Got this mr beer kit from my mom. Its done carbonating. I threw one in the freezer to try it. The pale ale tastes like a sweet Chardonnay.

Did it have a lot of sugar to add? What temp did you ferment at?

BTW - you should put the beer in the fridge for 48 hours to let the carbonation stabilize.

It could be because of a few things. Sometimes "wine" flavors come from using simple sugar in a beer without enough malt. Another cause can be a too-high fermentation temperature. I'd try a different beer kit instead of mr. beer and I'd make sure to keep the next beer under 70 degrees during fermentation. That should help with the next batch!

I had a very similar experience from Mr Beer. However, I think it's just how their yeast tastes. I tried the same yeast with plain ole DME and it smelled and tasted exactly the same. I bet their kits would be about 1000% better with good yeast.

If that's all you're after, there are far easier (and cheaper) ways. But yes, if it fermented, imbibing may cause intoxication. And terrible headaches.
