I'm trying to input the following recipe from Orfy into Beersmith. I've got everything entered into Beersmith and I've input the data in kg and it's been converted to lbs. I've come up with the same numbers except for bitterness. Orfy's got 38.3 IBUs and I came up with 42.7. What would I look for that would change that number?

Notes

from Winged via Orfy

Can't see anything that would cause the differences (unless you're using a different formula for IBUs, or the way of calculating the IBUs has changed). But, there's no way you'll notice that small a difference in bitterness (if it indeed exists) anyway. In fact, I read in some book (perhaps Designing Great Beers) that BJCP judges can't tell a difference of less than 5 IBUs with any accuracy.

Whole hops it is! I switched them to whole hops and the bitterness dropped down to 38.4. Thanks Scimmia.
