I'm organizing and leading a beer, cheese and food pairing event in a couple of weeks, to raise some operational funds for a Peace Camp in our community. I've done events like this before, they're fun, educational and a good way to raise a little bit o'cash for something I care about and want to be successful.

Here's the flyer:

The last time I did this kind of event, we had 30 people, which was perfect and what I was planning for this time as well. But the response has been much higher than I anticipated - we're already up to 55 RSVPs and I've cut it off - this is a hands-on sort of event and I think that's about the limit of what I can handle.

So, five brewers (including myself) are bringing their beers. I'll spend a few moments at the beginning of the evening giving a brief introduction to sensory evaluation, tasting beer, and the thinking behind pairings. Then I'll introduce the first brewer who will talk a little about their style, the flavor and aroma hallmarks, and history. We'll have individually plated pairings - one cheese and one other food item for each beer.

Anyone else enjoy doing these kinds of events?

I'm bringing a 3 gallon keg of a Czech pale lager as a gathering beer. The styles the brewers are bringing are German Pils, Saison, IPA, and Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. The final style is still tbd.

Oh, another great thing about this - half of the RSVPs are from the Augustana community and the other half are from others, outside the community. That diversity of attendees should make it a more interesting event, I hope.
