These guys are buying up one of every beer in the USA to scientifically categorize them and make a sort of "genome" listing to help people figure out if they'll like a beer before they try it. Nice idea, thought I'd give them a shout out.

They sure have an interesting idea.

I really don't like how they are using the word "genome" though. They are using mass spec, which provides no information about the gene-ome of the beer. Instead, it will tell you about proteins and metabolites, which is just as interesting and valuable. Why not say that?

They even say they are developing a DNA database of beers...without DNA? They don't mention sequencing?

Maybe I'm just a skeptical scientist, or they are dumbing it down for the lay-person, but wow Dr. Cunningham, what's the deal? Maybe people don't care if they have a shiny app for beer.
