SO simple but exactally what I need! got the scrap wood in the garage to make this next weekend! Thanks for the idea!

I can testify that this works well. I made two of these a couple years ago from two salvaged plywood pieces. The shape was a little odd - the pieces came off of a futon. My concern when I made them was that the water off the bottles would gradually ruin the wood, but so far I haven't had any problems. I made my openings larger and farther apart so they would hold wine bottles and one gallon carboys. If I were doing it over, I would drill four larger holes on each board that would hold drying flasks. Mine also double as tables when I am not drying bottles.

Haven't seen the need yet for a bottle drying rack. When I final rinse each bottle, I flick the remaining water out and stand it upright. What am I missing?

I always hot rinse again just before bottling and sanitize.

For me, I have kids and dogs, so I store all my bottles upside down. When I bottle, I sanitize and set in the racks, then turn the bottles over and fill them. This allows me to sanitize in a batch, then bottle without worrying overly about dog hair or kids messing up a bottle / batch.

Fantastic!

I really need something to drain the bottles inverted prior to storage. I've thought about a bottle tree, but don't really want one. This seems perfect for what I want. I've got plenty of scrap, I'll make it to fit my draining pan, and I've got some sealer that is too old to be used on decent furniture, that should seal it a treat.

Thanks for showing this, a great idea.

What size holes do you recommend?

Measure what you want to put in them. Mine are all 1.5", but if I were doing it again, I would make 2 - 4 larger holes to hold drying flasks. If you want to dry larger wine bottles, then your holes will need to be farther apart. If all you are doing is 12 oz beer bottles, they can be closer together.

Does that help?

Cody

For 12 oz beer bottles, I made 1 3/8 inch holes at 2 3/4 inches on center. This works well enough with the wide variety of bottles that I use. If you always use the same type of bottle a different size hole and spacing might be better. I know in my case that the few Duvel bottles that I like to use fit the 1 3/8" holes perfectly but would work better with a slightly wider spacing.

I made my holes 1.5" so they stuck 2"down below the surface (the bottle tops) You don't want anything crawling up inside! Then went with the 2x6 so there is plenty of space.

Sometime you really need some hair of the dog what bit you...
