Does Toronado have bottles of Cable Car for on-site frequently, or is it just for special events like this one/once in a while type thing? And when they do, what's the damage?

Not recently. Last few trips over the past months there has not been any Cable Car bottles. Usually for special events and randomly, too.

Damage can be steep. I forget exact pricing, but for current year I would expect around $80 upward to $250+ for 2008 - 2009. And then everything in between.

Interesting, the handful of times I have been there they have had bottles. It has been ~6 months though.

Was there in late June this year and they had several years on. A bottle of 2014 was $80. It went up fast past that.

It's always been that way. As long as I have been going there at least (3-4 years?)
That started after the old manager Steve left and Dave took a more active role in running the bar. I'd guess that was around 2013? Before that the old ones weren't much more than the new ones, the problem was getting them to sell the damn things.

Right, the upside to the new pricing is you don't have to butter up the bartenders and hope there is something worth drinking on the real bottle list. The downside is they got wise that the pricing was waaaay under market.

On a rare occasion, I might shell out for the most recent vintage Cable Car (were at $60). If people are willing to pay the gouged prices, more power to Toronado, I guess. Like CBS, I'm not going to pay those Cantillon prices though. Yeesh.

I've only been to toranado once and thought the bar sucked. We really just need some half decent bars to come into SF and put it out of business.

Beer Rev is still the best beer bar in the bay area by a mile IMO.

Toronado SF vs Toronado SD, night and day differences.

Place is a **** hole, with **** service, high prices on bottles, and a tap list that majority of the time is fairly average these days. What is there to love about it? I guess it was great 5+ yrs ago?
Honestly, one could make those same arguments about Beer Rev, except the service part. I've never had issues at Toronado. YMMV

Stayed directly across the street from Beer Rev for three nights last year and had two pints there the entire weekend. At least I know I can always get Reality Czeck at Toro.

Unless you have an emotional attachment, which is easy to do with those two if you've been drinking craft beer in the bay for longer than 4 years, both of them are kinda ****** bars at this point. Taplists have become watered down as more places put good beer on, they're both pretty dingy (putting it nicely), and the location of Beer Rev is awful and the service at Toro is hit or miss (plus cash only, wtf?).

Still, Beer Rev hosted kick-ass bottle shares, still has lots of local stuff on draft, and a reasonable bottle selection. Toronado is one of the oldest (the oldest?) craft beer bar in the states.

Honestly, there aren't a lot of good beer bars in the area, much less great ones. I stick to the ones close to my house for the most part, which all have their pluses and minuses (Ale Arsenal, Gourmet Haus Staudt and Harry's Hofbrau).
