The transplants are out of town. Burning Man week, 4th of July, and the Christmas break are by far the best times to hang out in the City.

If the BART tube weren't shut down, I'd be in the city doing actual city things today. Hoping it is running around Xmas break...

In a testament to how out of touch I am: what are the best East Bay bottle shops? The only stuff I buy is an occasional pickup from K&L or The Wine Club, but now that Founders is coming to East Bay, I want to grab some in October.

Please don't say Perry's.

Reticent to say as both places I go are pretty low on most peoples radar, but star Grocery and Alameda Craft

Down near you I mostly hit up Mission Liquors and Cork n Bottle. They were both pretty okay.

Fairly sure that Founders will be plentiful at Bevmo...

"Pretty okay" is the problem. Small selection that's heavy on Bruery, stuff isn't chilled, etc.

Might be too far down, but California Craft in Mission San Jose isn't horrible

I've been there too, same problem.

Ideally I'd like to pick up fresh, chilled Lagunitas, Founders, Bell's (when it hits NorCal properly and not just through K&L), Ballast Point, Sierra Nevada... Whole Foods Fremont fails on freshness, BevMo fails on freshness and chilling.

Basically, I don't think anything in my immediate area is going to have what I need, so it sounds like I'll need to hit Oakland / Berkeley / Alameda.

If you want (mainly) out of date and overpriced Southern California stuff check out Encinal Market in Alameda. All kinds of Beechwood, Smog City, Noble, etc etc stuff sitting on the shelves. It is the only place on this side of the bay I see Pizza Port cans however.

Why the "chilled" requirement? As far as hoppy beers are concerned, my understanding is that if the bottling/canning date is relatively recent, storing at room temperature shouldn't really have too much of an effect.

Also, sort of off topic, but are there any stores in the Bay Area with prices as consistently low as The Wine Club's? I've looked around and I'm always surprised to see stuff there go for like $1-$5 cheaper than elsewhere, almost every time. (They also occasionally get fresh cans of Two Hearted.)

I've seen Pizza Port cans at Good Hop. They have a decent selection but some stuff is overpriced.

Since Pizza Port has been brought up, is there anybody in the South Bay / Peninsula that carries their goods?

Holy ****, those prices are good.

I KNOW RIGHT?

Too bad the Santa Clara location is a bit of a pain to get to without a car.
