I may stop back in Toronado today or tomorrow if anyone wants to split some bottles. I'm on Valencia now going to hit Cellarmaker again a little later for cans. It wasn't crazy earlier today, so I didn't want to lug them all around the city.

Yeah, when CM cans aren’t a collab, they usually make it to the next day. And DIPAs can go quickly, too.

This place had a great staff. Friendly and made the customers feel part of the beer experience . Then the moronic upper management decided to pull the plug on the employees by shutting down the place and back stabbing them and firing them all. CONGRATS Sierra Nevada for outing your company as another scumbag corporate enterprise who doesn't give a s**t!

On the other site they’re saying it’s due to renovations. Will be back open later this month. SN’s website also says it will reopen. I hope so, as matey said great place. Also really great staff, hate to think they all got fired.

This is what I heard from a friend in contact with them:
from sierra nevada - I wanted to send all of you a private message in regards to the temporary closure of our Torpedo Room in Berkeley. We have decided to close the doors while we perform a refresh of the space. We are working to improve the overall customer experience at the location and look forward to hosting you once it’s complete. They adding a patio.

Apparently one day back in 2015 or 2016, the owner went on some sort of firing spree among the employees. I don't know more details, but it was word of mouth from friends I have who work in the industry. The beer took a further hit in quality after that, and they recently shut doors a month or so back.

Far too lazy to read or search this thread - but here I am, looking for recommendations on where to stay and what to do with a wife and a 9-year-old boy in San Francisco or the wider Bay Area. We may need to visit someone in Fremont, if that helps narrow it down.

Also, where is a good spot to tick the highest number of TBers or to collect the rarest tick of all tosh? I'm not even sure the family will let me out (although maybe family dinner that eases into TB ticking might be possible), but it's worth half-heartedly exploring.

Coming out the last weekend in July into the first week of August.

Yeah, Fremont I imagine will be a single visit for a half day or something.

And we were planning on renting a car for the entire trip (later in the week, we're driving down to Sequoia/King's Canyon).

Kid loves just walking around cities, does pretty well at museums, loves eating in restaurants where he can get a sugar drink (heh heh).....last year in NYC, we did a statue of liberty cruise (side note: Alcatraz is sold out, are there grey market options?), the Met, the Natural History Museum, the High Line park...but a lot of just walking/eating in random places too.

Like zoos? My 2-year-old loves the Oakland Zoo. If you want to get out on the water you can just take a ferry, there are plenty that go between useful places, even if they're not for sightseeing. In terms of just walking around a city SF is by far your best bet, Oakland's downtown is pretty city-like but there are way fewer cultural things to do and it's generally smaller. Downside is SF will be way more expensive. Your best bet might be trying to find an AirBnB somewhere in the East Bay near a BART line (no idea about cost but just in terms of "interesting things nearby" I'd look at MacArthur, Ashby, Downtown Berkeley and North Berkeley).

In terms of stuff to do I think whatever sightseeing website will give you a solid list, there are plenty of places around where you can take a family for a meal that will have good beer (Paulista near me is a great option if you're into Brazilian food), that's more the thing we can advise on (although others will be better at it, I hardly eat out).

Hope we can touch tips when you are out here! We will be moving from the SF around then though.

Open to AirBnb? On their search criteria or when looking at results there is family friendly listings. We lived in the Marina/Cow Hollow area for a while. It is nice with access to killer playgrounds and walking spots. Otherwise, Fisherman's Wharf area is preferable due to proximity of hotels and kid stuff nearby. Grab the historic F car MUNI lines. They are the slow ones that lumber up and down the Embarcadero and fun to ride.

One of our favorite spots is the California Academy of Sciences. They have an aquarium and many interactive exhibits for kids.

Across the way is the De Young Museum. There is a free observation tour where you can see the entire City and many parts of the bay.

We did this exact trip above a few weeks ago. I have a membership to the Cal Academy and free passes if you want to meet up. We could even brown bag some beers in the park
