Anyone make it out to City Beer for the blind IPA tasting tonight? I've been meaning to do a blind tasting. Maybe one of our monthly tastings could be blind where everyone brings beers of the same style with one being highly regarded and the other unheard of so we can see what hype really does? I think it'd be a fun experiment.

Heads up, Bay Area peeps. Looks like I will be coming to Berkeley/Oakland late July/early August.
Would love to meet up and share some brews with fellow TB:ers. I'll be there with my family, visiting my wife's family, but I'm arranging a hall pass for a night or two.
SARA seems a must, as does Toronado. Other tips welcome.
Around Aug 6-7 we'll be driving up to Grants Pass, OR for a family gathering on Aug 8 and if I have something to say about it we'll hit Russian River and Lagunitas on the way.

Will keep you posted on how this develops (tickets not booked yet), maybe start a PM thread for those interested in participating.

Can possibly bring a fun bottle or two for a share but won't be setting up any massive IP trades, suitcases are going to be filled up with kid stuff anyway

Cellarmaker should not be missed.

Russian River and Lagunitas aren't really on the way to Grants Pass unless you want to add a couple of hours to your drive.

Shady Oak Barrelhouse in Santa Rosa.

Anyone heard of these guys?

yes, brand new dude, making solid beer. The Bokonan one with the brett is a damn good brett beer, and some nice slight barrel notes. The dude is really cool from what I hear, and slowly working on getting his others beers out. Got a lot sitting in wine barrels at the moment.

Yes, had a pour of Bokonon at BeerCraft and it was better than I expected. Funkatronic is supposed to be even better. Looking forward to his sours and the ones from Cooperage.

WHERE DID ALL THE ALPINE GO

I was told they're turning Hoppy Birthday, Nelson, and Duet into rotating / seasonal releases.

Look, I'm all for the craft brewer and ****, but...

AB-InBev buys GI --> Bourbon County available nationally at reasonable prices
Green Flash buys Alpine --> the good stuff vanishes

Ok...

This is some serious BS.

You're just not good at beer marketing. It's quite clear that what Northern California has been missing is a ****** Irish Red and a totally mediocre stout. No one could possibly be interested in regular availability of the best IPAs on the planet.

Caps & Taps 2 year anniversary is this Saturday and Sunday. Festivities start at 12 Saturday and then last all weekend. Brian and Jeff both were down in So Cal earlier this week picking up all kinds of deliciousness for this weekend. Should be a great time. There will be an extra hoppy cask from an SF favorite of theirs ;), tons of bottles and awesome tappings all weekend long!

Can't ******* wait. Gonna be up probably both days with some friends and trying all sorts of beers.

Just picked up bottles of both from Berkeley Bowl, no idea what kind of distribution these are getting so figured if anyone wants to try a bottle.

According to the brewery via email, this is not true, fwiw.

They do tend to rotate the keg offerings every 2-3 weeks in our area (far from seasonal rotation though), that's probably why that bar manager said that. I notice that most bay area bars that carry Alpine usually have the same Alpine beer on tap. Right now, it's mostly Duet. A few weeks ago, it was mostly Hoppy Birthday. I'm guessing Alpine will be next.

So he's probably confusing bay area keg distro with what's going on down in Socal or at the brewery.
