I know people wait a long time in lines for beer, I simply lack the patience to play that game. I'll let the hardcores get those beers.

I dunno, hanging out in the sun chatting about beer for a couple hours never seems that bad to me. Now those Southampton January releases, that wasn't worth it.

I kind of assume there's going to be a bit of a line everyday, and already took this morning off, so.

How do you figure? Doing a daily allotment prevents that since people can go on whatever day is convenient for them instead of all having to go today.
guess I didn't really think that through. my experience is that they don't communicate too well with whatever line is present, so who knows.

The crappy thing is there will be lines every day now as they are only selling so many per day. that means if you dont go stand in line, the odds of getting the beer are greatly dimished. Way to give the day working folks a chance at the beer RR hhaha.

Well, you can't please everyone, but here's how I look at it.

1) Metering means you discourage out-of-town travelers who would bombard the first day of release
2) 4 bottles pp means you discourage people from more than a certain distance who don't want to take the risk for "so little" reward, though I personally think 4 is plenty
3) The early must-haves will get their fill, and reasonable people stand a good chance after a week or so, even if that means they have to suck it up and take an afternoon off to wait in line

tl;dr they're making it very locals-friendly.

the concept is good but let's be realistic, how many people go to just load up on as much as they can? and is a 4 pp per day? if not, why not go, get 4 bottles, go grab lunch, come back for 4 more?

I don't know how that relates to my post.

I'm sure there will be double-dippers. RR can't prevent people from being dicks. But a smaller allotment generally discourages a huge crowd.

I was referring to limiting people amount and limiting for the day as well. Yes it will keep some away but with the beer craze, the amoutn of people that will still go first thing every day will be stupid high. I just hope their allotment for the day is not some small amount like 40 cases.

I love the daily allotment setup. 4 bottles is enough for anybody really, but getting more shouldn't be hard if you are that desperate and take a buddy or gf. I will actually have a chance at getting bottles this year. Sure I may end up needing to use a vacation day to go if I want to avoid weekend lines, but I'll treat the trip as a one day vacation and just enjoy my time there drinking the stuff on tap and coming back with 4 bottles.

Beats the clusterfuck of last year when they sold out quick and varying amounts. By far a better idea than the Beat release too.

I don't think during the week next week will be all that bad. The dust will settle and those who rushed up and must have it the first day will already have it. Weekends and Fridays may be a bitch, but mon-thurs I don't see much of an issue getting bottles or inside if you are there around opening. I could see it lasting through the afternoon or early evening some days next week. When they did the release in this fashion a few years ago, my buds and I went during the 2nd week and it was surprisingly empty at opening.

I wonder what the blend is this year? It's usually some combination of Temptation and Sonambic.

Usually? Has it ever been that? Definitely wasn't in 2011 and I don't think it was in 2012 either. Could've slipped past me in 2013.

2010 - Sonambic
2011 - Temptation
2012 - Temptation
2013 - Temptation + Sonambic

I think the first year was 250 bottles (WAEL!), rest were about 2k, though I'm not confident on 2013's numbers.

Curious to see if they made more this year.

Have a potential meeting in Petaluma on Friday, will likely be only chance to get to RR for this release. Undecided if I should push for the meeting to happen or not.

My desire to participate in potential clusterfucks is spent.

We shall see if the meeting happens I guess.

Not at all. I just want to see the world burn.
