Imma be there Friday. You heading over there? We can do our IP trade there if you want. Otherwise I can swing to your area on my way there or my way back.
I'm thinking that sounds good. Hoping for new bottles and Cask 200 on draft. Given the past few weeks, that's not a stretch. Taplist on saturday was stupid good.

I'm around 16-21 so if there are some hill farmstead things I can bring for a chance to drink with you fine folks, please let me know.

I have to work! Plus I'm definitely going down on Saturday for family stuff, doing that trip two days in a row is a little crazy!
Psh, nuclear phsyics isn't changing anytime soon! Hopefully another day will work, though. And then we discuss whether the laws of physics are immutable throughout the multiverse, since I prefer my beer with a side of nerdiness. (P.S. You don't seem nerdy; but, you're a physicist, so just indulge me, damnit!)

How does SARA feel about bottle shares? I'm trying to get my Portland trade box rerouted to SF so I can crack it this week.

From the Russian River blog:

"Vinnie and I were discussing the fast approaching storm while watching the news the night before. One of us actually said "this just might be the first year that no one shows up"."

Really? Are breweries really that ignorant as to what is going on in the beer world these days? The CC fiasco just seems to confirm that.

I'm guessing it was an off the cuff joke.

Regardless, next Beat release, I will state clearly to them, "there will be more people than last time. Plan accordingly."

I don't know anymore. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they thought that. They've shown that they still underestimate their draw with the Beatification release and this year's Younger.

Oh well. At least they've just been busy releases and not complete **** shows. We can be thankful for that.

I'm not so sure. At the Beat release, most of the employees were running around with a deer-in-the-headlights kind of look, and the girl ringing up the bottle-only line literally had no idea that it would be that busy.

They're not the only ones - look at Founders KBS release, Cigar City's Huna debacle, The Bruery's online sales of cellar beers or BT, Firestone Invitational tickets and their Feral release last weekend.

Each year gets worse and worse.

It's good evidence that the market can support more good beer. Let's hope the ingredients and equipment suppliers can keep up.

I agree. The last shitshow they had, they learned from, ala Younger 2010. It's only a matter of time until the next big release outdoes Hunahpu 2014 also. I just hope it's not one of ours.

Isn't there a really big fear right now in the industry that suppliers can't, in fact, keep up with the growth?

That's what I heard, and it's already a significant challenge for new breweries. There isn't enough stuff to go around, particularly regarding stainless brewing equipment and hops. So the little guys are having trouble acquiring the more desirable hop varieties (Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra, etc.) and there is even a wait time (6 months+) for new equipment for some brewers.

But this demand should eventually be met with increased supply, hopefully from more local specialty options. Would be cool if there were many different growing regions for hops like there are for grapes.

That area is called Santa Rosa ;)

Seriously, we need to go back to our roots and plant some hops instead of another ******* vineyard.

I am going to start a new way of thinking...my first thoughts of a slogan are "think ******* local for everything, except for Belgium lambics"

Given CA's water situation, I'm not sure planting anything is the direction to go in right now...

Learning to live within the environmental constraints of your surroundings - you are doing crazy talk, that aint happening n USA 2014. So move on and come up with a new reality

Sacramento used to have the largest hops farm in the world, before Prohibition screwed that up:
http://www.sacramentohistory.org/films_hopfarm.html .
In fact, less than 3 years ago there was just ONE hops farm in all of California, which is rather insane:
http://www.sactownmag.com/December-January-2013/Deja-Brew/index.php?cparticle=5&siarticle=4

California needs to get their **** together and grow some hops. Unfortunately, with the current drought this is about the worst possible time to start.
