Hi,

When we begin heating water for the mash, it is better to use cold tap water or its possible to use hot tap water ?

I never use hot water because it has gone through the hot water tank and I am nervous to think of what it might have picked up in there. I don't really have any proof that it did but just the thought is enough to make me not use it.
 
Test it yourself..take a cold water sample, and a hot water sample and chill them in the fridge, taste them side by side and see what you think ! It's not scientific, but I always start with 120F water and it speeds up my brew day !
 
Yes, speeding up brew day and saving on gaz/electricity is the main purpose of this question, just wanted to know if others where using hot tap water with good result, before I scrap a batch.

By the way, all this juice is boiling for 60-90 mins after ...

Just curious what people arround here think of this.

Not sure if you are saving much on gas/electricity since the water heater will have to burn some energy to replace the hot water...
