I was going through my hops inventory, and at some point in must have found some pacific gem on sale, because I have at least a 1/2 lb from a few years ago. I would like to use them up. Would they work for a Baltic porter? Not the whole pack, but would that be a decent hop for that style? Thanks!

From what I read, Pacific Gen should really only be used as a bittering hop....so sure why not. Just use it up front to get in the 20-40 IBU range. Baltic Porters should have no hop aroma and medium low to no hop flavor, usually from spicy hops. So just using it as a bittering hop would keep aroma and flavor from it down and unless you are entering comps with it, does it matter if there is not a very low spicy hop flavor? Though there are black pepper notes in that hop, so technically that is spicy!
