Despite wheat's huge rally since early June, it's still a far cry from the 2007-08 run-up. Bad weather and demand for biofuels sent grains to record prices in summer 2008, sparking food crises in developing countries.

That saw an increase of about $8/sack, I think we can all handle that

I think it's going to cause problems for everyone.

It would be great if our government let the market be free. But price controls, regulations, all sorts of BS basically bump prices double what other countries pay for the same commodities and processed goods. A can of beans in UK is over 50% less. Ever read the Supreme Court case Wickard v. Filburn 317 U.S. 111, a wretched opinion that expanded congress' authority under the commerce clause . . . basically required a farmer, who grew too many bushels according to the law, to destroy the crop and pay a fine. Thanks FDR and your lousy New Deal socialism. . . .

I'd like to hear your thoughts on corn subsidies that cause overproduction and reduce the cost of that grain far below equilibrium price. So much so that virtually everything in the grocery store is laced with corn derivatives.

Corn equilibrium price has been going up, no? As for HFCS, that is just because we like it.

I was referencing the subsides as a counter point to your govt price fixing of grains to keep prices high.

Now they want to tax HFCS (beverage tax) - ain't that a *****? Taxing something that is subsidized.

Grain prices (that the farmers see) are an almost trivial part of the cost of homebrewing. Malting barley was under $4/bushel in 2008. That's less than 9 cents a pound.

I think subsidies are just as unconstitutional as price fixing.
