Visited the Adirondacks again this past weekend, this time summiting Giant Mountain.

Two day exploration in San Jacinto wilderness looking for new boulders. I had mapped out an off trail route to check out places I saw on Google Earth but it turned out to be too henious of hiking through waist high, dense manzanita. Ended up spending most of the time on trail but still found some goods worth going back to.

Hard to see my friend wearing all black but he is on the big boulder in the background. Nice wintery day up at Black Mountain on Wednesday drinking beers with my friends and playing on rocks. Crazy this is southern California right now. At least the beers stay cold all day in your backpack.

This was a couple months ago at 10,000' in Great Basin National Park.

We camped up there, and I found out (the hard way) that this + a crowler of Block 15 Fluffhead while unacclimated to the altitude was a bad idea after I passed out while taking a piss at 2am. Lesson learned.

I loved Great Basin. Did you climb Wheeler Peak?

**** no. The passing out was beer related, but also altitude sickness related. We wanted to do the alpine lakes trail (a 3 mile loop above 10,000'), but I felt a little bit like I was going to die. We were only passing thru on our way to the Grand Canyon north rim, but might have tried it if we had time to acclimate to the altitude.

Flatlander. ;)

I know it is still a joke compared to what most of the country experiences, but this has been the most real winter since I moved to California 5 years ago. Black Mountain, which is normally easily climbable year around has been hit with a series of storms, each dropping around a foot of snow. Looks like another coming in for late this week. Hasn't stopped us from trying to climb though, just been a bit harder. At least it keeps other people away. Big thanks to DCLA for the Monkish cans.

Bouldering still fascinates me. Not enough to try it. First encounter was a group of people doing it up on the coast of Lake Huron and one of their buds in a cast hobbling along just to have something to do. Must have busted it a day or two earlier. He then plopped on a big floaty on the lake and watched them from there.

I am currently that guy hobbling around in a walking boot watching my friends have fun at the boulders. This getting old **** is for the birds.

I don't know how I missed this post origionally but I just wanted to comment that the texture on that rock is rad. That brecciated texture could of formed during the escape of fluid in shallow water environments (i.e. soft sediment deformation) during deposition, or after lithification due to diagenesis / dolomitization. Sorry, I am a geologist, and I just had to nerd on that rock for a second. Back to beer...

Got a two big storms in southern California over the last week. Snowed 3+ feet at my main bouldering spot. Day 9 on my project. Too obsessed to not go try it. Took me 3 hours on skis to get to the boulder, then another 3 to shovel, sweep and brush the boulder dry. Had my best burn yet but no send. At least I got to drink this beauty. 2nd favorite monkish after foggy window. Thanks DCLA.

I'd like to note that this thread is ******* awesome and I wanna go outside.
I totally agree . Hopefully my knee recovers enough that I can get out and at least do some hiking this summer . I'm really enjoying the pics and stories . Just watched Valley Uprising for at least the 10th time . It's a great documentary about climbing in Yosemite . I highly recommend it .
