Should work, biggest difference is that relay only breaks one pole, if you were using a definite purpose contactor you probably had a two pole set up. When running a 240v element it would be a bigger issue as you def want to break both your "hot legs". Not too big of a deal (saftey wise) with a 120v setup as as long as you are using it to break your "hot leg".

Thanks! That makes sense. So I would just place this past the SSR output on the hot line and let the neutral from the element continue uninterrupted? Sounds easy enough.
