Are people using .5lbs of carapils mainly just for head retention?

I see a lot of recipes with .5 lbs of carapils added. Whats this for? Flavor or just head?

Head retention and body, no flavor. FYI, if you have any crystal malt in your recipe at all then carapils is not needed.

Head and body. If I don't have another head producing grain in a bill, I always toss in a half pound.

Body/sweetness in pilsners. I make bohemian pilsners and I like to leave a bit of body there that disappears during lagering without the carapils.

I use it and torrified wheat for head retention (not in the same bill).

Extract brews of mine all have either carapils or wheat for body/head retention. In my AG's I always have about 1/4 lb of Acidulated Malt.

Great thanks! This means that since I have 20 lb unmalted wheat (and I use about .5 lbs in every recipe) that I don't need to put carapils in any recipe? Therefore I don't need to buy it?
