Are giveaways prohibited?

Giving away a small yeast bank in a few hours on my breweries FB page. Posted a link in this forum so that people could enter for the drawing, but noticed that the thread has been removed. I commonly hold giveaways on that page. Why is this frowned upon? Is it seen as spam even though it is a completely free item?

I think you have to be a sponsor for stuff like that. It's like going to other sites and drumming up publicity for your own commercial enterprise without giving anything to the owners of the site you are on...it's like free advertisement...
