In a few days i'm going to try to make apple hard cider and was curious if I could make a starter for the yeast out of some apple juice that I plan on using in the main batch?

I have 2lbs of dextrose and yeast nutrient if that would help.

Randzor is right... apple juice is (for the most part) yeast heaven. They'll go nuts unless you really screw something up.

Another thing that many don't realize is that super robust, healthy yeast=fast ferment. For cider, the experts say that slow fermentation is optimal. Also, healthy yeast= harder to stop with sorbate+sulfite or with a cold crash. So you generally want the little buggers to have to do a *little* bit of work.

Thanks, I brew beer not cider so this is going to be my first run and hopefully it goes well. cheers:mug:
