Was at our local brewers outlet and picked up a variety pack from Appalachian Brewing Company (Mountain lager, Watergap Wheat, Purest Pale Ale and Jolly Scot 80 Shilling). I liked all 4. I know they have been around for a while and heard of the restaurants but never tried their brew. My guess is that our local outlet is expanding the microbrew section and I really never saw it before even tho it has been available. Ratebeer only gives their brews 1 or 2 stars.

I think they are all pretty good and am wondering what others from the Harrisburg area think of the beer? and is it worth my taking my wife to the brewpub for dinner some time? (almost an hour drive one way)

Use to live in PA and miss some of those great beers. Ever try Troegenator by Troeggs? Man that was good. SkinnyShamrock-Annville PA? Are you a LVC student?

I've had most of their brews at brewfests. The Hoppy Trails and Kipona Fest are very good beers. However, I couldn't see driving a long distance to try them. I do hear they have a Belgian Bar at their location, but have never been there. But you could make a day of it. Troegs is close by so you could stop by and get a growler. Some good beer bars in Harrisburg also. This BA thread list some...Central PA Thanksgiving Tap Notes - US - Mid-Atlantic - BeerAdvocate

I usually go to the one in Gettysburg since it's closer but we were in Harrisburg on Sunday and we stopped in. The main Harrisburg brewpub is pretty big comparatively.

Good beer, the Hoppy Trails is a nice IPA.

Nice seasonals too. :mug:

I've had "the Purist Pale Ale" on bottle and tap....have'n't tried any of the others. I thought it was pretty good........

thanks for the replies. shot myself in the foot tho. mentioned going there to my wife and she thought it was a great idea. :) as shertz said we're going to make a day of it. OUTLET SHOPPING!:( my poor wallet

Might be easier on your wallet if you go to ABC after shopping, instead of the other way around. ;)

I've only been there twice - I'm always heading somewhere and don;'t have time to stop. Same for Troegs, which is very close by :mad:.

I really liked their pale ale. It is (at least the last time I had it) brewed in the English style. I was a nice change of pace from the typical American style

Go on a saturday afternoon and do the double take. Lunch at ABC, followed by the ABC tour. Then head over to Troegs for the 2:00 tour. they are only a mile or so from each other. After that go across the river to Scotzin brothers HBS.

Actually that is our plan for this Saturday. Although we may switch the order around. I haven't seen troegs new tasting setup yet. After hitting them up, we are going to the casino. That could be a bad idea, but oh well, you only turn 34 once :)

Feel free to tip your ABC bartender with homebrew and tell him you're an HBTer...

I'll... errr.... he'll appreciate it! ;)
